Loneliness FAQ
Plain answers for this room, in ordinary words. Loneliness is the subject, not a defect. The long essays may use an older voice. This page does not.
Is this therapy?
No. This room is educational writing. Loneliness is the subject, not a defect to be cleared by Friday. The pages are not therapy, not a clinic, not counseling, and not treatment. They do not diagnose. If you need care, please take it to a clinician.
Will this find me people, or deliver a friend?
It can suggest a next hello. It cannot deliver a person, and it will not promise you a friend. Wanting a voice in the room is an ordinary human fact. A page is not that voice. Nothing here will teach you to coax, persuade, or manage someone else into being your company.
Is loneliness a reason to stop my antidepressant, or any other prescribed medicine?
No. Never stop, skip, or change a prescribed antidepressant, or any other prescribed medicine, because you are lonely, because a page was kind, or because you hope company will do what the prescription does. A kinder evening is not a reason. A worse evening is not a reason either. Company is not a dose. Talk with your clinician about any change in care. If you are in crisis in the United States, call or text 988 (https://988lifeline.org/).
What if the loneliness is a crisis?
If you are frightened, or you do not feel safe, do not spend it alone with an essay. In the United States, call or text 988 (https://988lifeline.org/). You do not need to decide whether the pain counts. This page will not describe ways to harm yourself. If you are elsewhere, use your local emergency number or a local crisis service. This site has no public inbox and cannot answer a crisis.
Who is this room for?
First, for a woman around seventy whose hard hour may be the evening, or a house that grew quiet, and who wants warmth, clarity, and dignity. You might recognize a new city, holidays with no guest, friends who moved, or a long quiet you did not ask for. Younger women are welcome here too. This room is for many circumstances, not one generic reader.
How should I read this room?
Open one page. The longer essay is the loneliness room, in an older voice. This FAQ is not. If a circumstance sounds like your week, try a new city, after the house grew quiet, younger and lonely, holidays alone, after friends moved, or online-only friendships. If you are new to the house, the Begin path If you’re lonely is a short map. The glossary defines loneliness and adjunct to care. The house FAQ is for the whole site. One page is enough for tonight.
Have these pages been medically reviewed?
No. This room has not been medically reviewed. Please do not treat it as if it had. It is an adjunct to care: education beside professional help, and beside real human contact, never instead of either.
Is the shop open, and will a product promise me company?
No. The shop is closed. You may look at a catalog. You cannot buy. No piece, planned or later, will promise you a friend, deliver a person, or stand in for care. Nothing is offered as treatment.
Are younger women who are lonely welcome?
Yes. Younger women are welcome, including women who want company in the learning, and women who are questioning a medication path. The medicine rule does not loosen because you are young. Do not stop a prescribed medicine because a page was kind, or because you hope company will do the work of care. The same limit is on the page Younger, and lonely.
What about a holiday alone, or a friendship that lives only online?
A holiday alone has its own page, holidays alone: no unearned cheer, and no promise that someone will come. Friendships that live on a screen have a page too, online-only friendships, for company that still feels thin. Neither page will find you a guest. Neither is a reason to stop or change a prescribed medicine. If the day becomes a crisis, call or text 988 (https://988lifeline.org/).
How does this room relate to the depression room?
They are neighbors, not a diagnosis of each other. Loneliness is not the same subject as a low mood, and this house will not sort the two for you. They can share a week. If you are unsure what you are living with, talk with your clinician. The depression room is education beside care. It is not medically reviewed, and it is never a reason to stop a prescribed medicine.
The longer essay is the loneliness room. Short answers for the whole house are in the FAQ. The glossary defines loneliness and adjunct to care. If you are new here, start with If you’re lonely. Shorter pages already written are in the library. The shop is closed. Nothing there promises you a friend, and nothing is for sale.
If you are in crisis in the United States, call or text 988 (https://988lifeline.org/) before you keep reading. This page will not describe ways to harm yourself. A page cannot replace a clinician.
