Spirituality and Religion FAQ

Plain answers for this room, in ordinary words. The long essays may use an older voice. This page does not.

Will you tell me what to believe?

No. This room will not assign you a creed, a church, or an exit. It will not tell you that you must stay, and it will not tell you that you must leave. Belief stays in your hands. Education can sit beside a question. It cannot answer that question for you.

Will this house take my faith away?

No. If you still hold a faith, these pages will not take it out of your hands. If you have left, they will not push you back for the sake of a tidy ending. If you never had one, you are still welcome. There is no scorn here for believing, and no scorn for not believing.

Is this therapy, pastoral counseling, or a clinic?

No. This room is educational writing. It is not therapy, not a clinic, and not pastoral counseling standing in for care. It is not treatment, and it does not diagnose. A page is not a priest, a pastor, or a clinician. If you need care, please take it to a clinician or another qualified professional. If you want a faith leader, that choice is yours, not this website’s.

Who is this room for?

First, for a woman around seventy who wants warmth, clarity, and dignity when belief is thin, or when it is still dear. You might recognize a Sunday still spent in the pew, a day when the words of prayer will not come, widowhood inside a faith or outside one, or a tradition you were given and have not yet chosen. Younger women are welcome too. This room is for many circumstances, not one generic reader. It is not a campaign for faith, and it is not a campaign against it.

How should I read this room, and where do I start?

Start with one page, not all of them. The longer essay is the spirituality and religion room, in an older voice. This FAQ is not. If a circumstance sounds like your week, open that page: still in the pew, or when the words fail. If you are new to the house, If you’re new here is a short map in ordinary English. The glossary defines spirituality and religion. The house FAQ answers questions about the whole site. None of these pages decides what you must believe.

Should I stop prescribed medicine because a page spoke to my faith?

No. Never stop, skip, or change a prescribed medicine because a page felt holy, or because it felt empty. Feeling a little clearer is not a medical plan. Feeling worse is not a reason to handle the dose yourself. Talk with your clinician about any change in care. Stopping on your own can be dangerous. If you are in crisis in the United States, call or text 988 (https://988lifeline.org/).

Is a creed, or certainty, for sale?

No. The shop is closed. You may look at a catalog of pieces that are planned and not yet for sale. You cannot buy them. We are not selling a creed, a conversion, or certainty. No product is treatment, a cure, an income, or magic, and no future piece will tell you what you must believe.

Are dry prayer days a verdict on my faith?

No. The page when the words fail is education about a dry day. It is not a verdict that your faith has failed, and it is not a verdict that you should abandon it. A thin hour is not a diagnosis. This house will not grade your prayer, your doubt, or your absence.

Is a thin Sunday a diagnosis?

No. This house does not diagnose a low mood, grief, doubt, or the state of a soul. Recognizing yourself in still in the pew is not a label. If a low mood has been staying, that conversation belongs with a clinician. This page will not sort faith from illness for you.

What if the dryness becomes despair?

A crisis of despair is not an assignment for a website. In the United States, 988 is the crisis line. Call or text 988 (https://988lifeline.org/) if you are in crisis, if you do not feel safe, or if you are not sure the pain is enough to count. You do not need a tidy explanation. This page will not describe ways to harm yourself. If you are elsewhere, use your local emergency number or a local crisis service. Do not bring a crisis to this website. There is no public inbox, and a page cannot answer you.

The longer essay is the spirituality and religion room. Short answers for the whole house are in the FAQ. The glossary defines spirituality and religion and adjunct to care. If you are new here, start with If you’re new here. Shorter pages already written are in the library. The shop is closed. Nothing there sells a creed, and nothing is for sale.

If you are in crisis in the United States, call or text 988 (https://988lifeline.org/) before you keep reading. This page will not describe ways to harm yourself. A page cannot replace a clinician, and it cannot replace a faith leader you trust.
